Common questions
How does the word counter count words?
It splits your text on whitespace, so any run of characters separated by spaces, tabs or line breaks counts as one word. Sentences are detected by ending punctuation (. ! ?) and paragraphs by blank lines. Everything updates live on every keystroke.
Is my text stored or sent to a server?
No. All counting happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded, logged or stored anywhere, so it is safe to use with drafts, emails and confidential copy.
How are reading time and speaking time calculated?
Reading time uses an average adult silent-reading speed of 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses a typical presentation pace of 130 words per minute — handy for scripts, speeches and video voice-overs.
